HKRS New Centre Grand Opening

Hong Kong Rabbit Society (HKRS) was founded in January 2003 becoming a registered charitable organization under Hong Kong Special Administrative Region’s recognition by March 2006. In the same year with the kind sponsorship of Ms Sylvia M. Ferreira, the first HKRS Welfare and Resources Center was set up in October 2006.

We faced our biggest challenge two years ago. Our old center was situated in a building where maintenance problems were getting bigger and bigger. During rainy seasons dripping became a serious problem for us. In the meantime, the center has reached its capacity because of the high number of abandoned rabbits surrendered to us. Such an undesirable environment meant suffering to the rabbits and of course extra work and pressure to the volunteers (to whom we always owe a big debt of gratitude for their perseverance). Because of this, we began our moving plan and started to accumulate a special fund for this purpose. We also hoped to strengthen our public education work with moving to a more desirable venue.

Today after two years, we made it!

Our new center venue is located near our old one, with a walking-distance not longer than 8 minutes and a floor area of around 1500 sq.ft. We are very lucky to have met our kind landlord who is willing to take a lower rent. With his kindness, we only see an approximately 20% increase in our rental, although the floor area of the center is a double to the original.

The grand opening ceremony of our new Centre will be held on 9 June 2012, 11am to 1pm. It is our honour to invite you to visit our new HKRS centre.
