Little fat Swallow is being abandoned (some of the photos might be disturbing!!)
On June 30, 2012, during the service hour of HKRS; around 4:42pm; a girl was holding a bird cage containing a rabbit arrived 5th floor. She encountered some of the HKRS customers when she got out from the elevator. She did not hesitate and discarded the bird cage outside HKRS and left by the rear staircase. The two customers saw this situation and notified the staff. However it was too late and she has escaped.
Swallow – the name of the abandoned rabbit. Our staff brought her back to the Centre. While our staff was cleaning its urine burns and the messy hair around its lower part, we found a wound. We cleaned the wound with iodine. Surprisingly, a worm crawled out of the wound! The worm was still sucking the blood of the wound! The situation is horrible.
Everyone was worried about Swallow’s body might have a large number of worms. We arranged Swallow to see the veterinarian immediately. Fortunately the bloody wound did not run through its body and it is only in the skin. According to vet there is no other worm inside Swallow’s body. Vet suspected it was a fly worm. Swallow was obese and it cannot clean its own lower body thus the lower body was too dirty and attracted the flies to lay their eggs. However, vet did not know what cause the wound.
Swallow’s recovery was very good and do not need to do surgery. However, Swallow’s intestine is moving very slow, and it is too fat. It is also trying to adapt to the new environments thus its diet was very poor. We need to force feed it, massage its stomach and it needs to take medicine. We hope Swallow intestines can work normally as soon as possible.
Swallow is a very cute rabbit. During treatment it is so calm and did not struggle. It likes to be hold and it is well-behaved. We believe that we can find Swallow a new home very soon.
